Headphone leakage refers to the process in which sound escapes from the earphones worn on the head, the sound from the sealed ear shells or earplugs. When we turn up the volume of the headset, the leakage of the headset can easily distract the attention of people around.
Results: Our test results show that in-ear headphones have the least leakage. Because the speaker of the earphone is very small, it can form a closed space with our ear canal, and the silicone plug can also fit our ears well to reduce the degree of sound leakage. Relatively speaking, the over-ear speaker is larger, so the sound will be louder. If the earmuffs cannot have a good confined space with the ear, the sound leakage will be much greater than other types. Therefore, this also drives people to design better headphones to reduce the degree of sound leakage.
The speakers of earbuds are also very small, and within a certain range, the sound that others can hear is also very small, so the degree of sound leakage is also small. For on-ear headphones, the degree of sound leakage is greater than that of earbuds and smaller than that of over-ear headphones.
